Doctor Sponsorship
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. - Nelson Mandela
Medical education should be an ongoing process, through which doctors may continuously strengthen their abilities to effectively serve their patients. The SWME’s Doctor Sponsorship program empowers developing communities through the continued professional development of their leading doctors. SWME sponsors doctors whose work has a humanitarian impact on their local community and who lack the funding to attend the world’s top continuing professional development activities.
Defining Communities in Need
SWME’s Doctor Sponsorship program is geared towards communities that are significantly disadvantaged in terms of their population’s access to quality health care, adequate medical facilities, and the resources required to treat diseases and improve their overall health and well-being.
SWME’s criteria for determining a community’s level of need falls in line with the United Nations Development Program’s Human Development Index, which measures three basic dimensions of human development - a long and healthy life, access to education and a decent standard of living. Quality health care and medical education are key functions of the human development process as they contribute to improving life expectancy, curing infectious diseases, and educating populations about disease prevention.
